De passage à Calais, Timothy Brierley, britannique inconnu des médias, s’est retrouvé sous les projecteurs de la presse. Et pourtant, il ne s’agit pas d’un passeur de migrants, pas non plus d’un chauffeur routier, mais plus simplement d’un fonctionnaire qui a cotisé toute sa vie à la sécurité sociale britannique … Cet homme est, en réalité, le premier patient anglais, opéré à Calais, dans le cadre du nouvel accord signé entre le NHS (sécurité sociale britannique, l’hôpital de Calais et le groupe Hopale de Berck.
La presse, la radio et la télévision anglaise se sont littéralement ruées sur le sujet, mettant en relief l’excellence du service public hospitalier de ce côté-ci de la Manche.
